Policies for a Mission Area

Why does a Mission Area Conference Need To Adopt Policies?

A Mission Area Conference may need to adopt policies

  • to comply with the law
  • to comply with the Constitution
  • to meet a funder’s requirements
  • to model good practice.

A policy is a statement that provides information on authority required, boundaries set and powers that are delegated.  It states what the Mission Area Conference believes and how it acts.  It lays down requirements, or sometimes guidelines for what is to be done.

Some policies have procedures attached, with a step-by-step list of actions.  Other procedures may involve template forms.

Core Policies

These are the policies which the Charity Commission will ask about:

  1. risk management
  2. investment
  3. safeguarding vulnerable beneficiaries
  4. conflicting interests
  5. volunteer management
  6. complaints handling
  7. paying staff

In addition we have included those policies which are often requested by grant makers

  • Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy
  • Financial Controls Policy
  • Reserves Policy

All Mission Area Conferences are encouraged to:

  • discuss these policies
  • adapt the policies to suit your context, where necessary and permitted
  • adopt the policies
  • disseminate the policies to all relevant Sub-committees as appropriate

We have also included the Data Privacy Notice for all Mission Areas to use.
