Olwen Lintern-Smyth leads the diocesan staff team to play its part in the formulation, development and delivery of diocesan strategy and policy to support God’s mission and ministry. Olwen is a fluent Welsh speaker, who was born and brought up in mid-Wales, before moving to Oxford for University. She has worked for most of her career in publishing and education, and in a range of roles for charities, including most recently as Chief Executive of an e-learning charity.

Diocesan Administration and HR Officer
Pamela is the Diocesan Administration and HR Officer. She coordinates the Diocesan Conference, Standing Committee meetings and oversees the Annual Returns process. She handles recruitment for the diocese.

Administrative Assistant
Debbie provides admin support for the office. It is likely to be Debbie who answers your call or greets you at the door if you come for an in-person meeting at the Diocesan Office in St Asaph. Debbie also sends out StAR each week and supports ducation ministry and comms work.

Head of Special Projects
Jonathan is developing, delivering and monitoring the strategy to deliver the diocesan vision of Growing Faith, Bringing Hope and Demonstrating Love. He is looking at effective change and training programmes in support of operational improvement and good governance and is playing a key role in co-ordinating operations in a way that releases time and energy for church growth.

Funding and Grants Officer
Ben is supporting churches and volunteer groups to secure grants for vital community and building projects. He is identifying, researching, and unlocking funding streams, drafting compelling bid documents and providing confident, essential guidance and encouragement to churches.

Project Manager
Lowri has been appointed to support the development and role out of new Mission Hub Churches across the diocese. Her role is funded by the Church in Wales’ Growth Fund.
Finance

Head of Finance
Michelle manages the financial systems for the Diocese. She works with the Diocesan Secretary and Board of Finance to develop the financial strategy and prepares the budget and regular updates for the trustees of the Board of Finance. She oversees the processing of invoices, the Diocesan staff payroll and finances for the Diocesan Office and contributes towards the development of the Mission Area Share scheme. Michelle works with various partner organisations to ensure costs and claims are made and that our legal and charitable obligations are met. Michelle is treasurer for the Grants Committee, Diocesan Property Board and Widows, Orphans and Dependants Society and is administrator for the Investment Sub-Committee.

Assistant Finance & Resources Officer
Adam is the main point of contact for Mission Area and church treasurers with regard to the Finance Co-ordinator accounting software, including the delivery of training. He works with Michelle, the head of Finance in making payments and maintaining the ledgers for the Diocese. Adam works part-time which can vary week by week to meet work requirements.

Head of Education, Children’s and Youth Work
Louise has responsibility for 49 Church in Wales schools across the Diocese of St Asaph. She oversees the provision of high-quality statutory education which expresses the Christian ethos and stands at the heart of the Church’s mission across the diocese. In addition, Louise looks after youth and children’s work as part of the Nurturing Steering Group.

Children and Youth Officer
Hannah coordinates young people’s and chaplaincy work across the Diocese. She works with children and youth workers, developing partnerships with other organisations and increasing the capacity of our network of volunteers.

The Schools Officer is responsible for schools curriculum support, Section 50 inspection advice and the Bishop’s Visitor Programme.

SCHOOLS OFFICER (BUILDINGS, GOVERNANCE AND ADMISSIONS)
Rhiannon has responsibility for buildings, governance and admissions for Church Schools in St Asaph Diocese, providing guidance on statutory and legal issues. She assists our schools with CRAMP funding. Rhiannon works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the diocesan office.

Engagement Officer
Sarah is the lead officer for the Engaging Steering Group and supports churches to engage with their local communities. She supports many of the Faith in Action projects. Sarah’s usual working days are Tuesday to Friday.

Pilgrimage Development Project Lead
Jane is exploring the potential for growth in the number of people walking the 130-mile North Wales Pilgrims Way route, which passes historic churches, sacred wells and ancient places of spiritual significance in the diocese. She will be looking to identify suitable pilgrim accommodation, improve the pilgrim experience, and promote Welsh language, culture and heritage.

Diocesan Communications Officer
Karen deals with all media enquiries. She is the editor of Teulu Asaph and oversees the creation of all diocesan publications. She makes films for training and ministry purposes and for use on the diocesan website and social media platforms. She looks for ways to promote services, events, news and special occasions through various media channels.

DIOCESAN CHURCHES INSPECTOR
The Diocesan Churches Inspector carries out the programme of Quinquennial Inspections of over 200 historic churches. He also works with our Mission Areas to identify opportunities for change – including adaptation of existing buildings to accommodate modern requirements, moving towards the net-zero-carbon target, developing tourism and visitor opportunities, supporting local volunteers, providing general estate management advice, and developing property strategy.

CHURCHES CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Ceri works with Mission Areas and churches to identify appropriate solutions for buildings and sites that meet current and future needs whilst conserving and enhancing their architectural and historical significance. Ceri administers the work of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches and manages the online faculties.

DIOCESAN PARSONAGE INSPECTOR
Emyr works for the Representative Body of the Church in Wales and has responsibility for the care of all parsonages within the Diocese. He manages a programme of maintenance, alteration, improvement and replacement of parsonages to ensure they are adequate and safe for our clergy and their families.

Director of Transforming Ministry
Mike is the first Director of Transforming Ministry. He is leading and overseeing discipleship, vocation and training, as well as new forms of ministry and church growth. He is working with the re-vamped Transforming Ministry Steering Group, previously known as the Developing Steering Group. He is developing vocations and training, and implementing new models of lay and ordained ministry. Mike has a background in chaplaincy, vocation and training, and supporting lay and ordained ministry.
