St Asaph Cathedral flies the flag for the NHS

St Asaph Cathedral has commissioned a new flag displaying Thank you to the NHS during this time of Coronavirus.

The Cathedral, the country’s smallest ancient Cathedral, is flying a blue flag saying Diolch/ Thank you NHS. It was designed and commissioned by the Dean, the Very Reverend Nigel Williams and one of the Cathedral congregation, John Liston.

The flag was printed by a company in Henley and despatched to north Wales on Tuesday.

Nigel said: “So many places are projecting images of their support for the NHS onto the side of buildings that I wanted to find a way for the Cathedral to show its support too. We can’t project an image onto the building, but we can make use of our flagpole.

“We sent our bespoke design to the company on Saturday and by Tuesday they’d printed and delivered it to us.

“The Cathedral isn’t far from Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan and many staff and other key workers will be passing by on the way to or from work.  We wanted them to know, we’re supporting them and are grateful to them for all their work at this time.

“In addition, as a church community we’re praying daily for all those in health and social care work, for those in the NHS and those caring for people in residential homes and their own homes.  As a society we are thankful for all those in key workers roles.”

Like all churches, St Asaph Cathedral is closed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.  A service is being recorded every Sunday and posted onto the Cathedral’s website. The Bishop of St Asaph is also recording a weekly service with contributions from across the diocese.  You can find links to online services at https://dioceseofstasaph.org.uk/coronavirus/

The Diocese of St Asaph is one of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales, an independent Province of the Anglican Communion.  In usual times, regular services and activities take place in 214 churches and the diocese looks after 50 Church in Wales Schools.

The flag was printed by Henley Print / Higgs Printing & Office Supplies: 01491 419429 / henleyp@higgsgroup.co.uk They will need print-ready artwork. If you would like to replicate the St Asaph Cathedral flag, please email the communications officer for details.
