Are you brave enough to abseil from St Asaph Cathedral tower?

Visitors to a family fun day at St Asaph Cathedral will be able to abseil down its tower.

The charity abseil on Saturday 3 August will raise funds for Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice and St Asaph Parish Church’s refurbishment project, enabling the church to become a hub for community activities.

Other attractions at the fun day include a bouncy castle, face-painting, stalls, games, crafts and an opportunity to do the Red Book Mystery Challenge, the Cathedral’s escape-room-style trail.  The Red Book Mystery involves a series of puzzles to be solved to unlock secret clues and crack codes based on the Cathedral’s history and heritage.

The fun day will be open from 10am until 4pm and the registration fee to abseil is £20.  The organiser, Clive Hughes said: “We’re looking for brave, adventurous thrill-seekers to take up the challenge of abseiling down the tower of our ancient Cathedral.  All necessary abseil equipment and safety will be provided and overseen by expert staff from Open Door Adventure, in Bontnewydd, near St Asaph.

“We’re asking everyone who registers to abseil to find sponsors so we can raise as much money as possible for both Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice and our local church.

“To take part you need to be reasonably fit to climb the 126 steps to the top of the tower and do the abseil. The minimum age is 12-years old but anyone under 16 must get parent/guardian permission.”
