St Asaph Cathedral tearoom to re-open, ready to welcome visitors

St Asaph Cathedral tearoom is to re-open on 1 July, for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Translators’ Tearoom built on to the side of the UK’s smallest ancient Cathedral is being thoroughly deep cleaned and fitted with Covid-safety measures ready for opening every Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm.

A one-way system will be in operation, new outdoor seating is available and a separate takeaway hatch has been installed to minimise numbers inside the café.

Translators’ Tearoom manager, Jackie Feak, said: “We are so excited to be re-opening after more than fifteen long months of closure. Unlike many places, we didn’t open last summer so have really missed our customers and are looking forward to welcoming everyone back.

“We’re doing all we can to ensure everyone will feel safe and comfortable inside the tearoom and will be offering a takeaway service for those who prefer.”

To coincide with the re-opening, the tearoom staff have been developing new product ranges. These include freshly baked and decorated celebration cakes and ‘pick n mix’ treat boxes. These will be available to order via the Cathedral website: https://stasaphcathedral.wales/en

The tearoom serves fresh food made on the premises using locally roasted coffee from Heartland Coffee and bread from Tanlan Bakery both of which are based in Llandudno and Chilly Cow ice cream from Llanychan outside Ruthin.  In addition, it sells a range of St Asaph Cathedral jams, preserves and chutneys specially created by Welsh Lady Preserves in Pwllheli.

Over lockdown, the tearoom was equipped as a Denbighshire Tourism Information Point, with details and leaflets about attractions both in St Asaph city and the wider area.

St Asaph Cathedral is open regularly to visitors and is home to one of the earliest copies of the William Morgan Bible, the first full translation of the Bible into Welsh completed in 1588.  An interactive interpretative exhibition guides visitors through the history of the ancient building and tells the stories of the sixteenth century Bible translators.
