The annual Snowdrops Blessing Service in a church near Llangollen is to take place on Sunday 2 February, 2025.

The service at 3pm in St Tysilio’s Church is held every year in the church which sits amid a carpet of snowdrops.

The church is famed for its stunning location overlooking the Horseshoe Falls on the River Dee, and the Candlemas service is a beautiful celebration of light, hope and renewal to mark the turning of the seasons.

The service will be led by Father Lee Taylor, Vicar of Llantysilio and Llangollen in the Valle Crucis Mission Area. He said: “All our welcome to our annual Snowdrops Blessing Service at Candlemas. Just as snowdrops begin to emerge as a sign of life in the midst of winter, Candlemas reminds us of Christ, the light of the world, breaking through the darkness.”

St Tysilio’s is a grade II listed medieval church dedicated to the 7^th century saint from Powys who lived all over Wales. There’s been a place of worship on the site since then, but the current building is thought to date from the sixteenth century. Inside the church there is a fine medieval oak roof and a rare medieval oak lectern.

The church overlooks the picturesque Horseshoe Falls, the starting point of Llangollen Canal, a World Heritage Site which includes the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Trevor, designed by Thomas Telford in 1795 and completed in 1808.

St Tysilio’s is in the Valle Crucis Mission Area which includes Llandegla in the north, the Ceriog Valley in the south and communities along the Dee Valley from Trevor to Bala.  It is part of the Diocese of St Asaph, one of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales, an independent Province of the Anglican Communion.  Regular services and activities take place in more than 200 churches and the diocese looks after 49 Church in Wales Schools.
