Praying Creatively

Many of us find that creative material like art, photographs or video material can help us ‘see differently’ as we deepen our journey into prayer. Try one of these resources!

Christian Art and the Gospels

This draws on the beauty of art and the Gospel to help us come closer to God. A daily posting combines a work of art relevant to the Gospel for the day with a short reflection. There are also short video reflections on themes such as COP 26 or Ash Wednesday.

Praying with Art

A series of reflections on paintings in very different styles, designed to help us engage more deeply with a passage of Scripture.

The Chosen

This new, highly acclaimed series about the life of Christ tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of those who met him. Three seasons (of an envisaged seven) are available as a new App.

Seeing More

A collection of short, surprising YouTube videos that invite us to explore our inner experience of God. You can search for video clips under many different themes, such as ‘Jesus’, ‘Love’ or ‘Temptation’.

Praying in Colour

Sample this lovely way of praying if you can’t find the right words or your mind wanders – or you just can’t sit still! Click on the website for free resources and suggestions, including a creative way of doing lectio divina.

Godly Play

Godly Play is a contemplative way of working with children. It is a way of telling Bible stories (and other ‘sacred themes’) with the help of sand and wooden figures, followed by a time of guided ‘wondering’. Godly Play is used in many different ways and the associated scripts have recently been translated into Welsh. The Spirituality Group offers Godly Play retreats or you can attend a short course to become an accredited Godly Play trainer yourself.
