People from churches along the north Wales coast will be meeting on the beach on Tuesday afternoons over the summer for a pop-up beach mission and litter pick.
The weekly event, called Shore to Shore, will see people walk a section of the beach and coastal path between Pensarn and Prestatyn, stopping to talk and pray as well as picking up litter.
Shore to Shore will start with a beach mission at 1pm, with the litter-pick beginning at 2pm. Children of all ages are welcome at the beach mission but must be accompanied by an adult. There will be opportunities to join in with parachute games, interactive talks and craft activities.
Shore to Shore has been organised by the Archdeacon of St Asaph and is supported by Church in Wales churches in Pensarn, Towyn, Rhyl and Prestatyn. Everyone is welcome as the Archdeacon of St Asaph, Andy Grimwood, explains: “We’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the beaches along the north Wales coast on Tuesday afternoons. Shore to Shore is about making the church a visible presence along the coast and aims to serve local communities by litter-picking.
“This is the third year of Shore to Shore, which started in 2021 during the pandemic and enabled people to come together, socially distanced, to talk, pray, pick up litter and have some fun. The addition of a beach mission this year brings a new dimension to Shore to Shore and we hope the open invitation to join in with the beach games and crafts will appeal to many families.”
“After the beach missions, volunteers will be spending two hours picking up litter and people are welcome to join us to walk as little or as much as they wish.”
Shore to Shore will take place on
Shore to Shore is part of a coastal strategy to reinvigorate church-life by the sea in north Wales. Many of the churches are based in large Victorian buildings in need of substantial modernisation. Some of the communities they serve are among the most deprived in Wales and are suffering disproportionately through the cost-of-living crisis. Last month, a conference on coastal ministry was held at Christ Church in Prestatyn.
Churches between Llandudno and Talacre along the north Wales coast are part of the Diocese of St Asaph. It is one of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales, an autonomous Province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
