The Rector of Newtown, Canon Nia Wyn Morris, invited Well-Fed to the church for a taster day on Tuesday 21 May. People were able to sample the food and order meals for collection the following week. Canon Nia said: “I’ve been amazed at the number of people coming along to sample the food and order meals for next week. The church has been full and we know there are a lot of people who will benefit from this service.

“People may be buying a £1 ready-meal thinking that it’s a good square meal but if they compare the taste and quality with the Well-Fed meals, they’ll realise that what they’re buying was not real food.”

Well-Fed offer a range of meals, from individual microwavable meals-for-one to freshly packed ingredients to prepare and cook a meal-for-four. Plus, there is the option for slow-cooker meals, also for four people.

The company are increasingly teaming up with churches and other community groups. They offer their meals as part of an existing event or activity, such as a Coffee Morning or Knit and Knatter Group. The director of Well-Fed, Robbie Davison, said: “What we’re trying to do is get great food into every single location across north and mid Wales. The most important thing is that we give local people the option to shop, through choice, for food that is good for them and tastes great too.

“This isn’t about charity. This is about developing a service which allows local people to eat on their terms. Good diet is for absolutely everyone. A good diet, which is affordable for everyone, will work for everyone.”

“At least 80 people came along to the taster session, and it shows us that people want to eat well at a price which is affordable to them. We’ve taken more than 50 orders today, 150 meals in all, so will be back next week to deliver their food and take orders for the following week.”

All Saints Church in Newtown hosts a regular Soup Lunch every Tuesday which is open to everyone. Soon, the church plans to arrange different activities following the lunch – making use of the warm space especially during the cold winter months. All Saints underwent a £700,000 refurbishment in 2022 and re-opened in June 2023. All Saints is part of the Diocese of St Asaph, one of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales.
