Priest for the Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area
We are seeking a down-to-earth and caring priest to serve three rural churches near Ruthin. This is a full-time stipendiary role within a supportive and collaborative team.
We’re looking for someone who:
- can lead three diverse congregations toward growth
- encourages the ministry of all God’s people
- is pastoral, relational and a good listener
- enjoys working as part of a shared ministry team
- embraces the joys and challenges of rural ministry
- values Welsh language and culture and is open to learning Welsh.
You’ll have the opportunity to use your gifts across the wider Mission Area while building strong connections with both church and community.

The Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area is on an ever-evolving journey to enable all its churches to embrace a mixed ecology of worship, by encouraging each congregation to deepen their own spiritual identity and to recognise their part of the whole Mission Area. Earlier this year, the Archdeacon of St Asaph, Andy Grimwood, made this film about the vacancy.
St Peter’s Church in the centre of Ruthin is to undergo a £1.6m transformation. The historic building in the centre of the town dates back 700 years and is being re-ordered to create a kitchen, toilets, meeting space, a balcony, level access and new underfloor heating. The interior will offer a more flexible space for community use, as well as worship, with the chancel area being lifted and the high altar lowered. Most of the pews will be replaced by more comfortable and movable seating. Next door, the cloisters are being renovated to offer pilgrim accommodation with three ensuite rooms, including one with accessible facilities.
In October 2022, Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area hosted our diocesan Eco-Fest. St Peter’s Church in Llanbedr was also the first in Wales to receive a Gold eco church award. You can find out more in this film.
Every Friday, St Peter’s Church in Ruthin holds drop-in Friday where people can come in to chat and have a hot drink, toast and lunch. There is space and toys for children to play. In this film, Casey Calvert explains what they do and how the idea came about.
