Confirmation Works
For those who are new to our churches and to the faith, preparing for confirmation is still a really good way to help them learn the basics of the Christian faith and to make a big celebration out of their decision to follow Jesus. Having something to aim for keeps people engaged, and we in Holywell and Greenfield have found the new confirmation service provides a lot to talk about with new believers (Christian teaching and reflecting on how to live it out).

Start! Course
Start! introduces Christianity through six DVD based interactive, small-group sessions. The Start! course makes no assumptions about participants’ background or experience or knowledge of Christianity or the church. It really does start from scratch. START encourages participants to examine their beliefs and to consider the Christian faith either as a new thing or more deeply.
In Borderlands we have run START on two occasions in very different churches. Once with a small group (3 people) and once with a larger group (20 people). In both settings it worked very well. In the larger setting there was also a well-attended, home designed bible study course as a follow up.
The materials for the course can all be found online The Start Course — Leading your Church into Growth

Christmas Unwrapped Course

We ran this 3 week Advent Course for the Mission Area. Each week starts with a 15minute video of a place in the Holy Land associated with the events of the Christmas Story. There are 2 bible studies to choose from either one for deepening discipleship, or a persuasion course (which we used). The persuasion course is aimed at people who might attend church but have never attended a course before, or friends from outside the church. The course was written by Rev’d Dr Peter Walker who has led tours to the Holy Land and a small group of clergy from across the UK. The course has led to a Mission Area task group being set up to run a series of Nativity Events next Advent.
