Community Consultation on the future use of St Mary’s Church in Brymbo

Members of the community in Brymbo are being encouraged to have their say on the future use of the St Mary’s Church building in the village.

The building was closed for worship in 2022 and the Church in Wales is keen to listen deeply to the community to understand its priorities for the building’s future. The churchyard remains open and people can continue to visit relatives’ graves.

An online survey is open to everyone with a connection to the community and will remain open until Monday 16 February to capture as many opinions as possible. It will take about 10 minutes to complete, is anonymous, and is available in both English and Welsh.

QR codes for the survey have been shared with St Mary’s School in Brymbo, Brymbo Sports and Social Club, the Enterprise Centre, and the survey is also available to complete online:

English survey: St Mary’s Church, Brymbo Community Survey – Fill out form

Welsh survey: Eglwys y Santes Fair, Brymbo Arolwg ar gyfer yr Ymgynghoriad Cymunedol – Fill out form

Paper copies are available from Brymbo Sports and Social Club.

Two focused sessions with representatives of the local community have taken place and have been well received by those attending. One-to-one conversations have taken place with political representatives and more 1-2-1 and small group sessions are planned.

The Diocese of St Asaph, which oversees the churchyard through the local Mission Area, and the Church in Wales, which owns the building, have commissioned an independent company to undertake the consultation. Anna Cullum Associates is an independent engagement specialist, which has developed a trusted and impartial consultation process. Alice Clark is leading the consultation.

The consultation is being delivered through a mix of facilitated small-group sessions, individual conversations and an open community survey. This approach is intended to ensure that a wide range of voices can be heard, including those who may not feel comfortable contributing in larger settings.
