Churches in Holywell area welcome new Priest from Birmingham

A new priest will be welcomed to the communities of Bagillt, Gorsedd, Mostyn and Whitford in the Mission Area of Estuary and Mountain on Sunday (9 February).

The Revd Kathryn Evans will begin her new ministry with a service of welcome led by the Bishop of St Asaph at the Church of Ss. Mary and Peter, Bagillt, at 3.30pm.

The Rt Revd Gregory Cameron said: ‘We look forward to welcoming Kathryn to her new ministry in the Diocese of St Asaph.  Kathryn is an enthusiastic and warm-hearted person who is committed to building up churches in confident discipleship and helping them reach out to their communities’.

Kathryn was born and raised in Birmingham in a Christian family.  She trained as a nurse and midwife, spending most of her nursing career in Primary Care, including working as a Practice nurse, Respiratory specialist nurse and in senior management in an inner-city Primary Care Trust.

Kathryn started training for ordained ministry in 2012 at St John’s College, Nottingham, and since ordination has served in churches in the Black Country, and most recently as Vicar of Oldbury, Langley and Londonderry.

Kathryn is married to Bob and they have two grown-up sons Ian and Dale, and a retired greyhound called Tom.  They have a flat in Deganwy and have enjoyed the occasional opportunity to be part of Welsh life for the past 5 years.  In her spare time, Kathryn enjoys walking, bird watching, knitting and crochet and reading, as well as meeting friends and eating lunches out.

Kathryn said: “We are really looking forward to coming to north Wales on a full-time basis and joining the Teulu Asaph and being part of the communities of Bagillt, Gorsedd, Mostyn and Whitford.  It’s exciting to begin this new chapter of our lives in such a beautiful part of the country”
