Churches across the diocese re-open for public worship

St Giles Church in Wrexham was among a number of churches across the Diocese of St Asaph to re-open for public worship yesterday (Sunday 19 July).

A Eucharist service was held in front of a socially distanced congregation with masks worn by some members of the serving team, including the Vicar, the Revd Dr Jason Bray.  Instead of the organ, a piano provided the accompanying music.  The congregation was limited in number to ensure social distancing and a shorter version of the service was conducted.  It was also broadcast live via Youtube for those unable to attend.

Other churches in the diocese which held services included St Peter’s Church in Ruthin (left) St Mary’s in Denbigh, St Ann’s and St Thomas’ in Rhyl and St Paul’s in Craig y Don.  Many other churches are open at set times during the week for private prayer.

All churches have to carry out a risk assessment before opening either for private prayer or public worship and these have to be approved and sign-off by the local Archdeacon.
