A church in Caia Park in Wrexham has been blessed and rededicated after an £850,000 refurbishment project.

The Bishop of St Asaph visited St Mark’s Church on Bryn Eglwys Road this morning (29 October) meeting members of the congregation over breakfast and leading a service of dedication for the renewed church.

The Rt Revd Gregory Cameron told the congregation that he first visited the church more than 17 years ago and described their service to the community in Caia Park as “vital to the work of the church”.

Those attending the service this morning included former vicars of St Mark’s and members of their family, including the family of the first vicar of St Mark’s, the Revd Gerald Griffiths.

Grants and gifts totalling more than £850,000 enabled the refurbishment work to be carried out. This included replacing the roof and the heating system, installing accessible toilets, adding ramped access, refitting the kitchen and reworking the meeting spaces. The large window facing the altar has been reglazed offering a view over the community that St Mark’s serves.

Sunday services have now returned to St Mark’s with the usual 11am service taking place. St Mark’s acts as a hub for Wrexham Food Bank and this is now open every Tuesday between 10.30am and noon. Caia Food Club is open once again in the church every Thursday from 11am – 1pm.

St Mark’s is part of the Wrexham Mission Area, a grouping of six churches which work together to serve the city. Wrexham Mission Area is part of the Diocese of St Asaph, one of the six dioceses of the Church in Wales, an autonomous province of the worldwide Anglican Church.
