A third book by the Bishop of St Asaph is now available for Lent.

A Prayer Book of Days: With the Saints through the ages offers 31 daily prayers from the treasury of Christian spirituality through the centuries.

It follows a similar pattern to the bishop’s previous books An Advent Book of Days and An Easter Book of Days and includes prayers from some of the best-known figures in the Christian faith – St Augustine, Patrick, Catherine of Siena, as well as lesser-known figures.

Bishop Gregory said: “This book is designed as a daily companion for prayer providing a history of the people behind the prayers and offering reflections on their significance today. I’ve tried to include well-known prayers from familiar saints such as St Francis and St Clare, as well as modern saints such as Edith Stein.

“I hope this will be a useful tool for people to support and enhance their own prayer life, drawing on some of the rich store of prayers we have inherited”

Each daily section includes an original icon-style illustration by Bishop Gregory Cameron, a prayer, the story that lies behind it together with a reflection on its significance in history and for faith today.

There are prayers from every century right up to recent times, with something familiar to treasure and plenty that will be new to discover, for all readers.

Bishop Gregory’s first book, An Advent Book of Days, was published in 2021 and an abridged version was created as an Advent Calendar for the Diocese of St Asaph. In 2022, Bishop Gregory’s second book, An Easter Book of Days was published and abridged extracts from it were used throughout Lent 2024 on the Diocese of St Asaph website.

Gregory Cameron was elected as Bishop of St Asaph in 2009. He holds masters degrees in jurisprudence, in Theology and in Canon Law, and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Episcopal Divinity School. He has lectured in Old Testament at St Michael’s College, Llandaff, and as an Honorary Research Fellow in Canon Law at the Centre for Law and Religion in Cardiff University. He was Anglican Co-Chair of the Anglican Oriental Orthodox International Commission until 2023 and currently serves on the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches.  In 2022, he was made a Commander of the Most Venerable Order of St John.

He has a wide range of interests outside ministry and enjoys icon painting, calligraphy, and film – particularly science fiction. He has gained recognition as a coin designer in his spare time, creating several designs for the Royal Mint and others.

The Diocese of St Asaph covers north-east and central Wales, stretching from Llandudno in the northwest to Newtown in the south. It looks after more than 200 churches and 49 Church in Wales Schools.
