Ad Clerum - August 2026

Dear Friends

There are some items of news which I would like to share with you as it will be some time before the September Ad Clerum.

I am pleased to announce that Petra Goodband has been appointed as Priest-in-Charge and Leader of the Growth Project at St Paul’s Craig-y-Don. Petra will take up her duties at the beginning of November. Helen Barnes has agreed to take up the permanent role as Mission Area Leader for the Alyn MA, having carried out the role on an interim basis for the last six months. She will continue to serve on her current part time basis.

I am sad to announce the death earlier this month of The Revd Canon Phillip Bryan Jones at the age of 92. Bryan served in the Cedewain Mission Area, primarily in Kerry, Llanllwchairn, and Aberhafesp until his retirement in 1997. He also served Rural Dean of the former Cedewain Deanery. His wife Margaret was a great support to him but sadly she passed in May of this year.

Bryan’s funeral will take place on Thursday 6 August at 1300hrs at Llanllwchairn Church.

The arrangements, outlined in my last Ad Clerum, made to cover archdeacon absences over the summer remain in place for the time being but I’m aware that Andy, Martin, Richard and Tudor (and myself) all have plans to be on leave during August. Please do check either directly with them or Esgobty as to who is available.

I look forward to seeing you in September – at the Clergy Synod on 17 September in St David’s Hotel, Ewloe, if not before. Full details will be given in the September Ad Clerum. In the meantime, I hope you have a good summer when diaries are perhaps a little lighter and with fewer meetings than at other times of the year. May God allow you refreshment and enrichment of mind, body and soul.

As ever, in Christ,
