The head of Christian Aid Cymru is to speak at a special service in Greenfield near Holywell on Sunday (11 May, 2025) to mark 80 years of the charity.

As part of Christian Aid Week (11- 17 May) Mari McNeill will be sharing stories of inspiration and hope from around the world, during the (Re) Try Church service at Holy Trinity Church (CH8 7JY).  The service, which starts with refreshments at 5.30pm, following by contemporary worship from 6pm – 7pm, is open to all.

The work of Christian Aid began 80 years ago at the end of the Second World War in 1945. It was founded by the British and Irish churches to support refugees in Europe. On the first Sunday after VE day, churches came together to pray for peace and they asked war-weary people to give generously and unconditionally to those who needed support. More than £80,000 (the equivalent of around £3 million in today’s money) was collected at that time for emergency supplies in mainland Europe. 80 years later, Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
