Eric the Bearded Dragon and Tilly the Tortoise to join the fun at Pensarn Church and Community Open Day

Children from Pensarn and Abergele will be able to meet, touch and hold exotic creatures, like Eric the Bearded Dragon and Tilly the Tortoise as part of the Canolfan Dewi Sant Community fun day.

The event on Saturday 20 July from 12noon will include a free “meet the exotic creatures” arena, with Eric the Bearded Dragon, a variety of snakes and lizards, Tilly the Tortoise and of course some creepy crawlies including a tarantula on show. People from across the area are invited and other children’s activities, such as face painting and a disco-dome, will be free to ensure that everyone can participate. There will also be a barbeque, stalls and activities such as outdoor go-carting for which there will be a small charge.

The co-ordinator of Canolfan Dewi Sant, Theresa Curran, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our open day on Saturday. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together, have some fun and find out more about the wide range of activities on offer throughout the week here.

“Canolfan Dewi Sant is the base for a  job club and Caffi Cwtch every Wednesday, various Martial Arts classes, U3A groups, Citizens Advice, Silver Swans ballet for the over 50s and much more. Our weekly church service takes place every Tuesday morning at 10.30am and all are welcome. We have something for everyone and much of what we offer is available free or at a low charge.”

Canolfan Dewi Sant is part of the Diocese of St Asaph, one of the six dioceses in the Church in Wales. Earlier this month, Canolfan Dewi Sant welcomed a group of American visitors who belong to the Friends of Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden. The Diocese of St Asaph organised a tour of various churches including St Dyfnog’s in Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, St Asaph Cathedral and Canolfan Dewi Sant, where visitors had the opportunity to play Boccia, a sit-down version of bowls, suitable for all abilities.

Abergele Boccia Club takes place at Canolfan Dewi Sant every Wednesday from 1pm – 2.30pm and is for people with or without a disability of any kind.  It is not specific to one type of disability and everyone is welcome.

The Canolfan Dewi Sant open day takes place on Saturday 20 July from 12noon until 3pm. All are welcome. More information is available on the website and via facebook.
