Guidance on the death of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh

The Bishop of St Asaph is encouraging clergy to play their part in helping the Nation respond respectfully to the death of his Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh.  In a letter to clergy this afternoon (Friday 9 April), Gregory Cameron commended a series of guidelines issued by the Church in Wales to assist clergy at this time. In the letter, Bishop Gregory wrote:

“Whatever one’s view of the monarchy, Prince Philip belongs to that generation who believed in their duty towards God and the nation, and who gave selflessly in service to this principle.  He deserves our deepest respect for his service, and as a man of faith, we commend him into God’s care.

“Undoubtedly the Church has a role in society still to mark events such as this which will be of national significance, and I am sure that you will play your part in helping the loss that many will feel.

“The Church is Wales has published guidance developed with the Palace and with the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to guide our response to the Duke’s death, which you will find at: Guidance following the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh – The Church in Wales”
